Meet Our Team:
Maya Guruswami, ND
Maya dreamed up the Bliss Birth and Wellness Center hours after the birth of her second daughter in 2016. She envisioned a birth and women’s health center that brought together holistic health professionals to create a community that would empower women and their families. Maya has spearheaded the mission to offer mothers a birth option, outside of the hospital, that is just as safe and still offers mothers the chance to make their birth experience their very own. In order to do this she and her team are working toward making Bliss BWC the first nationally-accredited birth center in South Florida. A nationally-accredited birth center – a gold standard level of birth center – is recognized by ACOG and insurance companies as the safest out-of-hospital setting.
As a Naturopathic Physician, Maya believes all healthcare should follow naturopathic philosophy:
- The body has an inherent self-healing ability.
- Identify and treat the root cause.
- First do no harm.
- Doctor(or Midwife) as teacher.
- Treat the whole person.
- Prevention is the best medicine.
Maya received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine – a 4-year degree, comparable in hours to the MD degree. She also holds degrees from McGill University in Anatomy & Cell Biology, and Pharmacology. During her career she has worked as a family medicine doctor with specialties in nutrition, botanical medicine, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, and homeopathy. In Florida, she has taught as an associate professor at Everglades University.
Maya and her husband Brad are both passionate advocates of natural birth; they welcomed both of their daughters into this world with beautiful water births.

She received her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University and a Master's degree from the University of Toledo in Clinical Nurse Leadership.
